On March 29, the Consulate-General of Japan in Davao held the “Japan Music & Culture Stage” at SM City Davao, Annex Event Center. This event was officially endorsed as a Commemorative Event for Philippines-Japan Friendship Year (70th Anniversary of Normalization of Diplomatic Relations).
During the event, students from the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku performed wadaiko (Japanese drumming) and the Soran Bushi dance.
Additionally, the Japanese unit “fuyu”, known for arranging Filipino hit songs into Japanese, held a live singing performance and led a Japanese language exchange session. Students from 8 high schools and universities in the Davao region participated in this session, enjoying conversations in Japanese.
Furthermore, a video message from Hamamatsu City was screened on the stage. Hamamatsu is a Japanese city that has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on inter-city cooperation with Davao City. In the video message, Hamamatsu City Mayor NAKANO Yusuke expressed his hope to further strengthen the bonds between the citizens of Hamamatsu and Davao, as well as between the two nations.
