On May 12, Consul General Ishikawa participated in the kick-off ceremony at the south tunnel-portal of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project, a loan aid project under Japan’s ODA, with Undersecretary of DPWH and “Build Build Build” Chief Implementer Emil K. Sadain, Project Director of DPWH Benjamin A. Bautista and JICA Chief Representative Sakamoto. This project, with Japanese companies’ technologies, will build first-ever, long-distance mountain tunnels in the Philippines. The twin-tunnels are key components of the 45.5 kilometer Davao City Bypass Construction Project, which will stretch from Sirawan in Davao City to Panabo City. Once completed, the tunnels will help reduce travel time from about two hours to just 49 minutes.
