Mindanao Online Baseball Camp 2021
2021/2/11
On February 10, Consul General Yoshiaki Miwa attended the Mindanao Online Baseball Camp 2021 hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in partnership with Yomiuri Giants, Japan’s most popular professional baseball team. The online baseball camp was organized to conduct trainings and exercises for the youth in Mindanao.
It is the second time for the event to be held in Mindanao and is a follow up to last year’s Mindanao Youth Baseball Camp held at the Davao City National High School grounds in Davao City. This year, the camp went online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was attended by some 300 elementary and high school students, parents and baseball coaches from Davao Region and other parts of Mindanao including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The online event also included a program wherein participants were taught the effective and enjoyable way of handwashing as part of preventing the spread of viruses or infections. After the training and exercises, the participants also had an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from the Yomiuri Giants coaches.
The online camp was supported by the Department of Education (DepEd), Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku (MKD) and Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJK-IS).
